Useful and Beautiful Update ( a ladder)

Watering our plants on the Lucano Ladder

Watering our plants on the Lucano Ladder

While the ultimate goal is to live in a small home with minimal items where every item is as beautiful as it is functional, we are still not there yet. But we are slowly but surely making our way there. The process is taking us years. Maybe it would have been faster to purge everything and slowly add but we didn't become as committed to "less is more" until we had kids and that kind of purging would have been easier when it just the two of us. Regardless, here we are 4 years later still working our way through our closets, cupboards and drawers and evaluating what we truly need and replacing with multi-functional or beautiful items that stand the test of time.

One of my go to sources for small space solutions over the years has been Room In Order. It's a local Vancouver company (and online store) that carries many helpful brands and has introduced me to other brands and products I'm not sure I would have found on my own. They reached out to see if I would choose a few items from their store that I think would be a great fit for our small apartment and other's living small. Some past items I found at their store are our Bathroom Garbage Can, our Electronic Cord Management Boxes and this Key Holder.

It was a bit overwhelming to choose the first item but ladders have been on my mind lately after  spending a lot of time painting my window panes (a longer story for another day). With 11+ foot ceilings in our living room and 9'5" ceilings in the rest of the home, a ladder is a necessity. We have had a home depot 6' ladder that takes up a significant amount of room in one of our closets and a small folding step stool. More often than not I find myself teetering on dining chairs or scaling countertops. Which is not the best example to set for my kids when they aren't allowed to do the same thing. So we have upgraded to a slim, light 3 step ladder that allows me to reach our highest shelves and ledges and Trevor can change the lightbulbs with it (I'm still too short). Our neighbours have a 10 foot ladder on their patio so if we ever need to get up really high I know I can borrow their's. The ladder is easy to move around our space when needed and stands upright when folded up (I wish our stroller did that!)

With one decision we are removing 2 bulky and ugly items from our home and replacing them with one beautiful Lucano 3 Step Ladder . I also love the 2 step Lucano Ladder but it was a bit short for our high ceilings. If you have normal ceilings I would definitely go for this ladder as it can also be used as an extra seat! This reminds me of the time I bought a beautiful broom. I still use that broom almost everyday and it makes me so happy to have a beautiful broom (that works) instead of the ugly blue plastic one I had before.

Sometimes living small is about philosophy and commitment and resiliency and sometimes it's just about a pretty ladder.
