Kids Wall Bookshelves Roundup (Ikea Flisat Alternatives)

Flisat shelves in the background of their previous room and baby Mae climbing the bunk ladder.

I have a deep love for the Ikea Flisat Bookshelves. I had them going up the wall in the kids first shared bedroom, and now above their narrow desk in their new shared room. I also had them beside the beds in my shared kids room at the Ikea Smäll exhibit. I love the warm wood and how many books it holds. I also love that the kids can see their book covers and that the books act as art in their space, because kids books these days are truly works of art. Well, the Flisat Shelves have been out of stock (at least in Vancouver) for the past year and it looks like they are most likely being discontinued ( I believe that’s what Now Or Never means on the Ikea site but any Ikea friends want to weigh in?). So I went on a hunt for alternatives.

The two most important aspects of these bookshelves are the fact that they are wall mounted and can fill vertical space without taking up precious square footage and that the book covers are visible.

I did find a few shops on Etsy creating similar shelves to the Ikea Flisat HERE. But instead of recreating something that was already great, I thought I would share some complimentary styles that caught my eye.

Love the warmth of the wood and the size of this option.

My favourite of the book ledges. There are many on the market. The key is in the placement.

While this one doesn’t show the covers I love how many books it holds while taking up a small footprint. Also the sides keep everything in place.

Might only be European but I think the concept could be recreated wherever you are located

Great price point and various colours and sizes. This one wins.

Let me know if you have found any other alternatives. And if you hang any of these in your space, would love to see!
